Sicily Holiday Accomodation

Human presence in this fascinating area dates from the 10th century bC, when our ancestors lived in the caves along the coast. Burial remains discovered in the area between the town and the "tonnara" lead us to believe that there were also settlements at a later date. The history of the area dates from the arrival of Vito, a young man from Mazara, who was accompanied by his nurse Crescenza and his tutor Modesto. Vito travelled around the area converting the people to Christianity. From the 3rd century on, the great devotion to the Saint brought about the construction of a small church on the sand dunes, now the site of the present-day Sanctuary. Alterations transformed the small church into a place of worship. The village of San Vito lo Capo dates from the 18th century wen the royal government granted land to those willing to cultivate the land and reside in the area.

San Vito lo Capo is a place of touristic interest which offers its visitors an opportunity of enjoying its various attractions: relaxing on the beach, diving, boat trips along the coast, trekking excursions to the nature reserve or trips to the archaeological sites and historical monuments in the area. San Vito lo Capo also offers tipical local cuisine and charming flower-filled streets. A perfect place for the whole family.
